Virgin Australia shortists top NZ Beef farmers for produce in meals on New Zealand to Australia flights

  • September 7, 2018

Virgin Australia has today announced the final three shortlisted beef suppliers who are in the running to supply their produce in meals on flights from New Zealand to Australia starting from October in it’s quest to provide the best in-flight dining on New Zealand – Australia flights.

The shortlisted farms are:
• Beaumont Station, located in Central Otago, known for their pure Hereford Cattle and award-winning Halfbred Sheep;
• Hinterland Foods, located in Moawhango, submitted a creative video where they herded their cattle into a giant Virgin logo; and
• Moreish Ltd, located in Palmerston North, recreated an iconic Australian Tourism ad in their application.

Virgin Australia and their airline caterer, LSG Chefs, are currently undergoing testing of the shortlisted suppliers’ produce, assessing the taste characteristics, the quality of the product and the compatibility with the onboard menu.
The winning supplier will be announced in the coming weeks once this testing has concluded, and their produce will be available on-board from the end of October in Business Class and Economy cabins. Guests in economy will be able to choose from two hot options and a cold option, with selected dishes featuring beef. This will be the first time that Virgin Australia has offered a cold menu option on flights from New Zealand in the economy cabin.

Virgin Australia also announced last month that guests would enjoy an all-inclusive fare on all Trans-Tasman flights from 28 October, providing each guest with up to 23kg baggage, as well as a drink and a meal, and complementary inflight WiFi for 15 minutes.
